Le code des corrections

When I grade compositions, I take advantage of MS Word's capacity for annotations. I underline basic mistakes (the ones for which you are reponsible) in red and indicate the type of mistake as follows:

  • gn - you've made a masculine noun feminine, or vice versa. Always check the dictionary for gender unless you're 100% sure.
  • acc - you've neglected to make adjectives or past participles agree in gender and/or number with the noun they modify.
  • forme - there's a problem with the verb. Either 1) you've formed the tense wrongly; 2) you've chosen the wrong tense; or 3) the form you've chosen doesn't correspond to its subject.
  • aux - you've chosen the wrong auxiliary in a composed tense.
  • synt - you've put the adjective in the wrong place or formulated a question construction wrongly.

Spelling mistakes are highlighted in bright green. Mistakes (including omitted words) that don't fit into any of these categories are underlined in red; if the mistake's not apparent, come see me.

If I don't understand what you were trying to say, I will underline the word or words with a squiggly line in blue. If I want to alert you to an alternative word or construction, I underline the structure in blue and put the alternative in brackets after the word or construction.

I use a variation of this same system for Wiki assignments.
