Since one of the advantages of studying at Haverford is easy access to professors, I hope that you will stay regularly and frequently in contact with me (in person or by e-mail, or ideally, both). Even if you have the feeling that you have mastered what we're studying, a conversation with me outside class can often be useful as a check on what you're learning and the extent of your knowledge, and can also provide the opportunity to increase your knowledge and practice what you're learning. This kind of contact can also show me your competence beyond what I am able to observe in class (see participation ).
I would also like to know you as a person as well as a student.
To encourage this sort of contact, I will return your graded work with a minimum of commentary. For a fuller explanation of your mistakes or of the problems you are having on any piece of homework, you will need to see me outside of class. Don't be afraid to "exploit" me; I'm here to help you to progress in every way possible.
I don't have regular office hours, but I am ready to see you at any time that our schedules can coincide. You can often find me in the LLC during the day, and I am usually readily available before 3 p. m. In the evenings and on weekends, we can "talk" by e-mail, if the questions that you have are not too complicated.
