La participation

Active participation is a necessity in a French course at any level: you're studying a spoken, as well as a written, language, and you need to explore all of its dimensions equally. Moreover, if you read the material carefully and think about it without sharing your thoughts during discussion, I will have difficulty evaluating your efforts. Make yourself known intellectually! (See A lire) Participating does not necessarily mean dominating the discussion; you can also do so by asking questions, clarifying points for classmates, practicingh new structures and vocabulary. You shouldn't leave a class without having said something.

Remember that making mistakes is in no way shameful, but on the contrary the way to improve. I am always sensitive to effort, even if this falls a little short; if you furnish the raw material, it's easier for me to show you how to shape it.

I of course realize that you may be shy. If that's the case, I hope that you will become less so in the course of Fr 001; in any case, if some work outside of class can make you more comfortable, I am here. I hope, too, that you will take advantage of your classmates to explore what you are studying.
