Young Alumni Giving Month is Haverford's newest fall tradition. Each October, we'll be celebrating the importance of support for Haverford from graduates of the last decade.
In order for our community to thrive, each member must participate in sustaining and building it. Making a gift to Haverford's Annual Fund – in any amount – is one of the most important ways young alumni can do that.
This year, there's another exciting reason for members of the classes of 2002-2011 to get involved:
Every young alumni gift to the Annual Fund received by October 31, 2011 will be matched 2-to-1, up to $100,000, by an anonymous member of the Board of Managers.
Help us meet the match! This is how much is left–
but we only get it if you give. Please make your gift by October 31st.

About the Challenge
Young Alumni Giving Month (YAGM) encourages and inspires graduates of the last decade to make a gift to Haverford's Annual Fund. Following its debut in October 2010, YAGM was recognized with the Silver Award for Best Fundraising Program from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.*
The response to the first YAGM was overwhelming. Members of the classes of 2001-2010 donated $66,666 to the College, which was matched 3-to-1 by an anonymous member of the Board of Managers, raising a total of $266,666 for Haverford's Annual Fund. Here's what some young alumni had to say about last year's YAGM:
Apart from having receiving the best education experience I've ever had, the match tied to my gift (and the deadline which forced me to actually act on my desire to give) sealed the deal. More of this will go a long way, in my opinion. - Buddy Buruku '01
Just wanted to thank that anonymous member of the Board of Managers for the generous matching of young alumni gifts. This is a source of considerable motivation, particularly for those of us that remain nigh indigent and assume our contributions to be largely symbolic and of no financial significance. Much obliged! - Frank Pittenger '05
This year, gifts from young alumni will be matched on a 2-to-1 basis during the month of October. All gifts received during YAGM go to Haverford's Annual Fund which provides current-year operating support for the College. These gifts make an immediate and direct impact on academics, financial aid, student services, the campus and facilities.
Read the College's news story on YAGM to learn more about its impact and the young alumni who made it all come together.

- This year, Haverford's goal for young alumni participation is 43%. Last year, we reached 42% participation.
- Last year, gifts from young alumni added up to nearly $130,000.

- One alumni donor is one alumni donor, no matter the size of the gift.
- Last year, the Class of 2009 won the Scarlet and Black Award for the highest participation rate among the 10 most recent graduating classes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I make a gift to Haverford?
In order for our community to thrive, each member must participate in sustaining and building it. Making a gift to Haverford's Annual Fund–in any amount–is one of the most important ways young alumni can do that.
What will my gift be used for?
All gifts received during YAGM go to Haverford's Annual Fund which provides current-year operating support for the College. These gifts make an immediate and direct impact on:
- Funding for academic departments, instructional programs, libraries and campus technology services.
- Financial Aid for more than 50 percent of current students who qualify.
- Campus services such as the Dining Center and Bookstore.
- Programs and offices such as Athletics, Quaker Affairs and Campus Security.
- Maintaining and landscaping the campus, maintaining facilities and housekeeping.
- Pre-med and law advising, health services, career development, and other services for students.
I can only give a small amount. Why should I bother?
Because your gift, no matter the size, is like voting on Election Day. Your single vote may seem insignificant, but it's the collective votes that make a difference. When everyone participates in giving to the Annual Fund, it's like a collective vote of support for Haverford. And, all gifts combined add up to thousands of dollars that we use to keep the College running.
Additionally, because of the generosity of an anonymous member of the Board of Managers, your gift will be tripled. But Haverford only gets the match if you give first. That gives you a lot of power, and we hope you will use it to help us leverage the full impact of the matching gift.
What are the terms of the match?
Every young alumni gift to Haverford's Annual Fund received by October 31, 2011 will be matched 2-to-1, up to $100,000. For example, a gift of $25 will be matched with a gift of $50, becoming $75 to support Haverford.
Will the matching gift count toward my class's gift total or my membership in The 1833 Society?
No. Only your original gift, before the match, is credited for these purposes.
If I make a pledge and promise to pay it by the end of the fiscal year on June 30th, can I still receive the matching dollars?
No. A pledge made during Young Alumni Giving Month will not be matched unless the College receives actual payment of the gift by October 31, 2011.
If I made my gift before YAGM started, will it be matched?
Yes. All gifts received between July 1 and October 31, 2011 qualify for the match.
How do I make my gift?
You can give online, by phone (1-866-443-8442) or by mailing a check payable to Haverford College:
