Marianne Weil
Visiting Associate Professor of Fine Arts
Biography
Marianne received her B.A. in Sculpture from Goddard College and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the School of Visiual Arts. Prior to receiving her graduate degree, she lived in Europe for 8 years where she apprenticed foundry artisans and stone masons in Pietrasanta, Italy.
Among her accomplishments are awards and grants from the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, NY Foundation for the Arts, The Heckscher Museum, the New York State Council for the Arts and fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Fundacion Valparaiso, The Hospitalfield Trust and Casa de Mateus Foundation.
Her teaching interests include metal casting in bronze, forging, fabrication and welding in steel, mold making, clay and carving in wood and stone. Collaborative projects with tri-co faculty have included art history, anthropology and archaeology curriculum.
Research
For the past 10 years, Marianne has been researching Neolithic settlements, studying the cairns, dolmens and burial mounds of ancient civilizations. She extrapolates from their prehistoric remains inspiration for her own creation. She is currently working on a public commission in bronze for the Village of Water Mill, New York. She exhibits her work extensively in the U.S. and abroad and is included in many prominent public and private collections internationally.
