Visiting Instructor of Religion, Ethics, and Politics
Biography
Jennifer Heckart is Visiting Instructor of Religion, Ethics, and Politics. A graduate of Princeton University’s Department of Religion, she holds an M.Div. and an M.Phil. from Union Theological Seminary, where she is currently finishing her Ph.D under James Cone. Her focus lies at the intersection of liberation and pacifist theologies; her dissertation mines the ecclesiologies of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Luther King, Jr. for resources toward a more counter-cultural and resistant twenty-first-century church. Chief among her research interests are African-American history, American Catholicism, genocide studies, patristic theology, modern literature, and curriculum development. A native New Yorker, she is passionate about teaching, justice, and baseball.
