The Coop: Staff
Geoffrey Labe
Coop manager Geoff Labe, a native of Rochester, New York, first came to the Philadelphia area to attend Drexel University where he majored in information systems. Geoff started working nights at the Coop in 2004. Now, he can be seen managing the morning and afternoon shifts.
"The best part of my job is interacting with the students," says Geoff. He also enjoys the flexibility of the position and the open-mindedness of his co-workers. "There's a lot of room for new ideas to get heard," he adds, mentioning the new Saikou sushi bar that opened in the Coop in March as one of those ideas.
Geoff does not need to look too far for recreation when he gets some free time. He frequents the GIAC for workouts and also enjoys playing tennis on the Haverford courts when the weather cooperates.
Marcus Williams
Assistant Manager Marcus Williams graduated from Haverford this past May (2012) with a BA in East Asian Studies. Marcus began working at the COOP during his freshman year. During his four years as a student at Haverford, he worked countless hours at the COOP servicing a number of guests from our regular faculty, staff and student members; as well as visitors to the college.
"Although I wouldn't call myself the best cook, the thing that I love the most is making customers' stomachs' happy and providing a comfortable environment for customers and fellow employees."
Kevin Moore
Cook
Kevin Moore
The Coop's Kevin Moore was born just down the road in Philadelphia, where he attended Roxborough High School. After a stint at a Job Corps cooking school in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Kevin came to work at Haverford in 1987. With the exception of one two year break, he has been working here ever since.
When it comes to cooking, Kevin does not have a specialty dish he likes to make for Coop patrons. "I like to challenge myself and experiment with all types of foods," he says. His favorite thing about working at the Coop, he says, is seeing customers sit down and enjoy their meals.
Gary King
Short Order Cook
Gary King
The Coop's Gary King, although originally from Hackensack, NJ, has been in Philadelphia for over thirty years. He attended Girard College and has been working in food services for over twenty years in numerous settings–be it restaurants, corporate cafeterias and hospitals.
What attracted him the most to Haverford was its unique atmosphere–a mixture of its beautiful green, and the wonderful demeanor of the people that come here.
In his free time Gary loves spending time with his family, and would consider spaghetti to be his favorite dish to create.
