Sophomore Year Experience Timeline
While each student will surely have a unique 'sophomore year experience' at Haverford, we hope the following information and resources will serve as a guide along the journey.
Summer
Meet the dean who will work with you throughout the rest of your tenure at Haverford.
Fall - Semester I
Meet with your faculty advisor to discuss your options for choosing a major - remember, you must declare a major by the end of your sophomore year.
Join one of the over 145 student organizations on campus. Or, if you are a club head, explore some germane and material resources for heading your organization!
Be sure you're on-track to completing the PE Requirement. If you're looking for new ways to get credit, check out these opportunities: PE Classes and Club Sports.
Interested in spending a semester or a year abroad as part of your Haverford education? Study Abroad! Don't forget to attend the Student Abroad Fair in October!
Considering a career in the health professions or law? Visit our Pre-Health or Pre-Law websites.
Get involved in the larger community through an Eighth Dimension service opportunity or through the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship.
It's never too early to research fellowship and scholarship opportunities: Committee on College Honors.
Winter break
Over the winter break, consider doing an internship or volunteering. Both the Career Development Office and the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship know of such opportunities, or you may set-up an experience on your own!
Spring - Semester II
Continue to meet with your faculty advisor as needed.
Declare your major (and minor and/or concentration, too).
Explore summer opportunities such as jobs, internships (domestic and abroad), fellowships, and volunteer and service opportunities. The CDO website is a great place to start!
Finalize all plans for studying abroad, with Dean Mancini, if you will do so in your junior year!
