Our Guide for First and Second Year Students covers required and suggested courses for medical and other health professions schools, and provides sample schedules for completion of these requirements. In addition, the Guide has sections on extracurricular areas of preparation, such as volunteer, clinical and research opportunities, and reviews issues related to under-represented, international and potential MD/PhD students.
The required courses for medical school will be changed, by 2015, into a series of required competencies as foundational for the study of medicine. Our chemistry and physics departments have incorporated the new competencies into the curricula of their introductory courses. Please review the flow chart when planning your premed courses. Keep in mind that during this transition period, many medical schools will continue to require four courses, so the courses required of you may vary by institution.
