The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) supports individuals and organizations working to foster the cultural and intellectual diversity of the Haverford Community. We provide funding to seed projects and initiatives that expand and extend our collective understanding of the challenges and opportunities of creating a truly diverse community.
The OMA offers grants of up to $300 in start-up funds for initiatives and ideas that foster cultural transformation on campus. These initiatives can range from coordinating workshops, lectures, discussion meetings, campaigns to social bonding activities, concerts to starting a film series or working to create ties with a community organization in neighboring towns/cities. Check out the funding application.
The OMA offers up to 12 grants each semester, and has two funding cycles each term for grant applications: Fall 2013 deadlines for grant applications are September 24 and October 22. The Spring 2014 deadlines for grant applications are February 25 and March 29. Make sure to read the guidelines for the funding applications carefully. For any questions, concerns or comments contact Joaquin Vargas.
The OMA works in close collaboration with offices such as the Rufus Jones Leadership Institute, Admissions, Athletics, the Office of Disability Services, International Student Programs, Eighth Dimension, Quaker Affairs, Student Activities, and The Women’s Center as well as with centers, concentrations, and programs such as Africana Studies, the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, East Asian Studies, the Education Program, Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Hurford Humanities Center, the Koshland Integrated Science Center, Latin American and Iberian Studies, Middle East and Islamic Studies, and Peace, Justice, and Human Rights. We seek to create stronger connections between students who are fostering innovative ideas, faculty members engaged in cutting-edge scholarship, and members of the staff and administration who are maintaining institutional commitments to excellence through diversity engagement.
