Information to Leave with
Your Parents or Guardians While You are Studying Abroad
- The name, address,
phone number, fax and email address of the program director
in the United States, if there is one, and the program director
on site. If you are going through another university or college
in the United States (Sweet Briar College, Wellesley College,
etc), please ask your parents to call the US director first,
whenever possible.
- The address, phone
number, fax and email of the resident director or housing
warden. Your personal address, phone number, email,
etc. Nota bene: In some programs, your mailing address will
be different from your residence.
- The name, address,
phone, and fax number of key people at Haverford College,
such as the Dean’s Office, Housing Office, Registrar, Business
Office, Financial Aid Office, and your Academic Advisor, etc,
in case your parents need to contact us directly about issues
of concern.
- Be sure to leave
a copy of your personal information, including
but not limited to social security number, passport, visa, the
numbers of your traveler’s checks, ATM/credit cards, etc with
your parents or guardians. You will also need to keep a record
of these numbers with you (but not in the same place as your
originals). With these measures, if traveler’s checks or passports
are lost or stolen they can easily be replaced. Don’t forget
to obtain the 24 hour phone number where you can report lost
or stolen credit cards.
- As soon
as you arrive, please call home. Your parents will worry about
you. Let them know that you have arrived safely.
- Please be sure
to let your parents or guardians know, well in advance, when
and on what flight you will be returning home.
