HP Copiers: Installing the HP Copier Print Drivers (Mac)
Note: Your Macintosh must have at least OS X 10.4 to print to the HP copiers.
Step 1: Install the Drivers and Software on your Macintosh
- Close the Print Center, if the Print Center utility is open.
- Download and install the HP Copier printer drivers. Accept defaults when prompted by the installer package.
- Download the Pharos.dmg file and install the two packages in the disk image: Pharos Pop Up and Pharos Notify.
- The feature "Fast User Switching" is not compatible with Pharos printing. If you enabled it, you must turn this feature off for your account.
(System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options > uncheck "Enable fast user switching")
Step 2: Add Print Queues for the HP Copiers Desired
Your Macintosh must have at least OS X 10.4 or 10.5 to print to the HP copiers. However, the instructions are slightly different for 10.4 and 10.5. Follow the instructions for your OS.
For OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
- From the "Apple" menu select "System Preferences". Open the "Print & Fax" preference.
- Your Printer List should now be open. Click the "Add" icon.

- You get a window titled
"Printer Browser." Hold down the Option key while clicking the "More Printers" button.
- You get the "Printer Browser" window.
- From the top drop down menu, select Advanced.
- From the Device down menu, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the Device Name box, enter a name that will identify the printer for you. (For example, Stokes 204 Color Copier).
- In the Device URL box, type popup://printq.haverford.edu/queue_name

- Find your printer model in the list.
- Click the Add button to add the print.

- Your new printer should appear in your printer list. Highlight it and click on the Show info button. Another window appears. From the top drop down menu, select Installable Options.

- Change the "Accessory Output Bins" as follows:
- CM6040 MFD - HP Booklet Maker - Mailbox Mode
- M4345xs MFD - HP 500-Sheet Stapler/Stacker
- M5035xs MFD- HP 500-Sheet Stapler/Stacker
- M9050 MFD - HP Multifunction Finisher
- When you are done, close the Print Setup Utility by selecting Quit from the Print Setup Utility menu.
- You are now ready to print to your HP copier queues. Follow the instructions for printing from your Macintosh.
For OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
- Open System Preferences and click on Print & Fax.
- Click the + button to add a printer.

- You'll see another window. Click on the Advanced button on your menu bar.

If you do not see see the advanced option, add it. Right-click (or Control+ click) on the menu bar and select Customize from the pop-up menu. Drag the "Advanced" button onto the menu bar. Click Done.

- After a brief scan of your network, you will get the advanced option window illustrated below. Note the four items to configure: Type, URL, Name, and Print Using.

- From the Type drop down menu, select Pharos Print Server.
- The URL type popup://printq.haverford.edu/queue_name

- In the Name box, enter a name that will identify the printer for you. (For example, Stokes 204 Color Copier).
- From the Print Using drop down manu, select the option Select a driver to use...
- In the search box, enter the model number of the device (e.g., HP CM6040; The model number of your device is also found on the Print Queues page) and then select the appropriate driver.
- Click the Add button to add the printer.

- An "Installable Options" window will appear. Change the "Accessory Output Bins" as follows:
- CM6040 MFD - HP Booklet Maker - Mailbox Mode
- M4345xs MFD - HP 500-Sheet Stapler/Stacker
- M5035xs MFD- HP 500-Sheet Stapler/Stacker
- M9050 MFD - HP Multifunction Finisher

- Click "Continue" when finished.
- Quit System Preferences. The HP copier should now appear in your list of printers. Follow the instructions for printing from your Macintosh.
