Computer Science is the representation and manipulation of information; it is the study of the theory, analysis, design, and implementation of the data structures that represent information, and the algorithms that transform them.
"Computer science differs from the known sciences so deeply that it has to be viewed as a new species among the sciences. " — Juris Hartmanis
There remain many open questions in the field, such as:
- Are there algorithms, yet undiscovered, to solve presently intractable but important problems?
- Are there alternative, more promising, models of computation than implied by the Church-Turing Thesis?
- How do we handle the consequences of computing and IT (e.g., bird-flu genome online)?

Digital Humanities is a nexus of fields (humanities, social sciences, computer sciences, arts) exploring how we live as citizens, professionals, and scholars in a networked world. We study the uses of new media and computing technologies in humanities-based scholarship and teaching, across the liberal arts.
