Using LinX

The LinX program turns a windows PC into an X terminal by rebooting with a Linux Kernel and X.

If you're using an installed LinX program on a PC in a public computing lab, you should be able to start it by double-clicking on the linx booter and then OK'ing the shutdown. You'll see a lot of text scroll by, and then you chould get a login screen.

To quit LinX, first log out from your remote session (this should give you a new login prompt), and then use ctrl-alt F1 to get a text screen, followed by ctrl-alt-delete to reboot (into windows). If you want to try installing LinX on your own PC, you can get a Zip file here that includes setup instructions. If you have questions about LinX, send us email.
