Using eXodus
The program eXodus lets you direct the output of UNIX programs written
for the X window system on a Macintosh.
-
Start eXodus on the Macintosh.
If you get a login prompt on the correct computer,
you're all set -- just log in.
Otherwise, choose "display management" from the "settings" menu,
click on the "change" button, and turn on the "query" option
(giving the name of the computer you want to connect to).
When you "OK" this change, you may need to click "OK" to reset.
You should then be able to log in.
-
Once you have logged in,
you need to "fake" the three mouse buttons that unix expects using the
Mac mouse and keyboard.
The way to do this is configurable, but by default it should be
something like:
Left button = Mac mouse button;
Middle button = Option + Mac mouse button;
Right button = Command + Mac mouse button.
-
When you are done, quit your login session on the Unix system (or at
least quit all of the applications that may need to save files) before
you shut down eXodus.
Note that eXodus is no longer available as a keyserved application.
LinX is now available for certain Windows PC's
with direct network connectinos (rather than dial-in connections).
