Welcome

Physical Chemistry, Nanoscience, Theoretical Chemistry

My research and teaching interests try to answer the following questions: How can we predict the properties of everyday matter? And if so, can we make interesting predictions?

Fortunately, for many of the things chemists find interesting, we need only understand the non-relativistic quantum mechanics of electrons. Sometimes we can even get away with just classical mechanics (i.e., "Isaac-Newton-with-a-computer"). One particularly challenging application is to describe the properties of nanostructures (e.g., nanocrystals and nanowires).
