Generally, only the most debilitating illness (fever over 100 degrees F, vomitting, severe headaches that do not respond to aspirin) and death of a family member or equally needy family emergency are valid excuses for missing laboratory. If you have a valid excuse, we will work with you to schedule a make up time for the lab even if you were unable to give us advance warning that you would miss lab.
We are SOMETIMES able to reschedule students who are on athletic teams, or who must attend an event for another class, or even those who need to go to a social event that cannot be rescheduled (like a wedding). We will grant such requests only if the rescheduling can be done with minimal disruption to the operation of the laboratory. Usually the least disruptive rescheduling is to swap days on the week in question (for instance, if you are in Thursday lab, to come the day before). Please limit your requests to cases where swapping days is really important to you; we are more likely to say yes to the first request of the semester from a given student than to the third or fourth such request.
WARNING: we will not normally grant requests to switch days just to make it easier for you to go home for or come back from Fall or Thanksgiving breaks. Do not buy a non-refundable airline ticket assuming that you can change your lab day. Also, check out the limo schedules to make sure that you can catch a limo that leaves after 4 p.m. to get to the airport to catch your plane if it is on the same day as your lab.
If you want to request that your laboratory day be rescheduled, you should do so well in advance of the date of the scheduled laboratory. Start by submitting a request to reschedule laboratory work by filling in the information on this page and then hitting the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page. The information you submit will be transmitted to your laboratory instructor (Dr. Kelly Matz) and your course instructor.
You will receive an e-mail approving or denying your request or asking for more information.

Explain (provide information after * in menu above, or briefly justify why it is important to you to reschedule this lab experiment):
When could you make up this lab? Put a check by each possibility. We prefer that you come to the alternate section (and if you are able to come then, you do not need to list other possibilities). Next best is that you make up the lab shortly after the original date, so that reagents do not need to be kept for long periods of time. Especially for shorter labs, this can sometimes be done during the second half of an afternoon lab period.
Alternate section of same week, meaning
I can come on Wednesday afternoon of the same week
I can come on Wednesday evening of the same week
I can come on Thursday of the same week
I can come on Friday of the same week
If you can only come for part of the time period from 1 to 4 (or 7 to 10), check the Alternate Section box for that day (above), but explain here:
Same times the following week (which may or may not be possible)
I can come on Wednesday afternoon of the following week
I can come on Wednesday evening of the following week
I can come on Thursday of the following week
I can come on Friday of the following week
Other times within the next week (list times below; making up labs in later weeks is a last resort option and will not always be possible):
When done, please click on the following button to submit your request: A page should appear confirming your submitted request.
