Quantum Chemistry
Index of useful Web Pages at locations external to Haverford
- Importance
of Coulomb's Law. (University of Southern Maine) - electrical attraction
between opposite charges and repulsion between charges of same sign
- Bohr
atom and Emission Spectroscopy (University of Southern Maine) includes
animated gifs illustrating atomic emission spectroscopy of the H atom
- Orbitron
(Mark Winter, University of Sheffield) - great gallery of orbital illustrations,
including animations.
- Electron
wavelengths and the Bohr model of the one-electron atom from the Hyperphysics
site (a great place to bookmark for when you need to learn about topics in
Physics). Shows how the wavelengths of the electron computed by de Broglie
equation correspond to integral number of wavelengths for the circular orbits.
- Physics
2000 (University of Colorado) tutorial on wave interference. This is a
great interactive web site that shows how the wave properties of light and
moving electrons lead to diffraction effects. Check out the "photon cannon"
and "electron gun" simulations of two-slit diffraction on the second
and third pages of the tutorial (hit the next button on the bottom of each
page to go to the next page).
