ASSESSMENT TOOLS / CAREER INVENTORIES
Career inventories and tests will not fully answer the burning question
about what should you do for the rest of your life. However they can
supplement your self-assessment process by highlighting your personality
style or interests related to work environments and help you think about
how your values or interests might match some specific career fields.
However, you should consult with a career counselor at the CDO for a
more personal and comprehensive evaluation of your career options and
plans.
Below are career inventories available at CDO. For more information,
contact the CDO.
- Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
- Looks at eight personality preferences that all people use at different
times. It describes preferences based on research that point to preferred
types of work. Takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete and 7-10
days to receive the results.
- Strong Interest Inventory - Measures
your interests and compares these with the interests of people happily
employed in a wide variety of occupations. Takes approximately 30-35
minutes to complete and 7-10 days to receive the results.
- SKILLSCAN - is a "card sort" designed
to help you determine skills. The card sort can provide information
on self-assessed skills and abilities that can help you communicate
your skillset to potential employers. SKILLSCAN can completed in about
half-an-hour with the counselor.
