Summer Research Assistantships
In addition to the above internships/grants, the College also funds summer research assistantships in which students collaborate in the research and scholarly projects of faculty members. Applications for funding are initiated by faculty members and selection of students for these opportunities is coordinated by departments, centers and individual faculty members. Some 50-60 assistantships are funded each year from a variety of sources including grants from foundation and government sources and internal funds. Check with faculty for availability.

Center for Peace and Global Citizenship Internships

Supports a range of domestic and international summer internships for students that stand at the nexus of liberal learning, critical reflection and social action. All internships must demonstrate one or more of the following characteristics:

1.  An intellectually critical engagement with the pressing issues of our day, both domestic and international, and with ways to address those issues in the non-profit, private, for-profit, educational or public sectors;
2.  A commitment to deepening the applicant's understanding of cultural difference, and of the ways that local communities are affected by broader global processes;
3.  Engagement with issues of power and inequality in their local, national and/or international contexts.

The CPGC internship program includes a rigorous application process, a pre-departure weekend-long orientation (April 5-7, 2013), and enrollment in a course related to their project upon return to campus. This course will help students integrate their experience into political, historical and cultural contexts. (Students studying abroad Spring 2013 or Fall 2013 are eligible to apply and may be required to complete alternate pre- and post-internship assignments.)

CPGC internships ideally span 8-10 weeks. Interns are expected to work full time (35-40 hours per week) in an unpaid capacity. CPGC covers the intern’s costs, including travel, local transportation, required vaccinations, visas, food, housing. CPGC also provides the summer earnings expectation for students who receive financial aid.

All returning interns are also encouraged to become involved in the work of the CPGC by participating in group projects, attending public talks, sharing their experiences with the campus community and designing their own projects for which they can apply to receive support through the many facets of the Center's programming funds.
There are two basic categories of CPGC internships, self-designed projects, which are developed by students with independent research or service-learning projects; and partnership opportunities, described below.

For more information and to start your application, go to the CPGC website
Students should contact the appropriate program coordinator to discuss their plans to apply. Appointments can be made with Chloe Tucker, international projects and with Janice Lion for domestic (U.S.-based) projects.

*Bryn Mawr students are eligible to apply for international projects only.*

I. Self-Designed
CPGC invites students to develop summer internships which deepen and expand their classroom learning and allow them to engage with organizations in the non-profit, educational, public or private sectors doing work related to the mission of the Center. Internships must be related to students’ coursework, and can be research and/or service-oriented.
Seniors can apply to the senior bridge fund; previously funded students can apply using the continuing connections application. Students conducting research independently or with an organization/host entity can apply through our summer research internship fund.
