On Thursday, December 10th at 8:00 PM, the Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges will perform their Annual Holiday Concert featuring the Philadelphia area premier of David Lang's "The Little Match Girl Passion" along with their traditional sing-along carols. This event is free and open to the public.
"The Little Match Girl Passion" is set on Hans Chirian Andersen's story The Little Match Girl in the format of Bach's Saint Matthew Passion, and is the recipient of a 2008 Pulitzer Prize. Lang's overarching theme is the story of a poor child who is released from her suffering through the power of her imagination. Movements alternate between recitation of the match girl story with movements paraphrasing the text of Bach solo arias and chorales, where the singers respond to the story of behalf of the audience.
