The Center for Peace & Global Citizenship cordially invites you to an intimate conversation with Kurt Shaw, Executive Director of Shine-A-Light, a non-governmental organization which works with grassroots community organizations in Latin America to find solutions to youth homelessness.
Kurt G. Shaw graduated summa cum laude from Williams College and spent almost two years working with grassroots groups in El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia. Kurt has worked as a Visiting Scholar at the Departamento Ecuménico de Investigaciones, Latin America's premier institute for Liberation Theology, and as a Research Associate at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington DC, where he worked on US-Cuba relations and governance issues in Chile. After earning a Master's Degree in Religion from Harvard University, Kurt counseled street kids in New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been published in Spanish and Portuguese in Pasos and La Revista de Interpretación Bíblica Latinoamericana, as well as in English in The Nation, Commonweal, and various other publications. He translated Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier's memoirs into English and is finishing a novel about street kids in New York. You can read it at kgshaw.wordpress.com.
