Open Forum 2: “The Kosovo Crisis – Expanding the European Union to the Balkans?”
This second open forum explores the Kosovo crisis of 1998 and forward in the context of civil wars and ethnic cleansing in the Balkans of the early 1990s. The Kosovo Crisis jeopardized the international notion of a European democratic peace of the 21st century. The presentation will discuss the nature of the crisis of Kosovo, explore the largest UN peace mission in history and the role of the European Union in bringing peace and order to Kosovo and Europe.
Questions to be discussed are:
1.How may we understand the European democratic peace in relation to the Kosovo crisis?
2.What was the role of the United Nations Interim Mission in Kosovo?
3.What role may the European Union play in the future path of Kosovo (and the Balkans)?
