This week: The Responsibility to Protect
Please join us on Friday, October 24, from 12:30pm-1:30pm in the CPGC Cafe (Stokes 104)
Our guest facilitator will be Emily Higgs '08, now working for the Quaker U.N. in New York City.
In the 2005 World Summit of heads of state, Responsibility to Protect emerged as a call for collective preventative action and more importantly, of obligation on the part of the international community in the face of mass atrocities worldwide. How do, or should, nations and international institutions engage this issue and operationalize it? What role does the UN have to play? Does US foreign policy reflect the theoretical complexities of Responsibility to Protect? How can those advocating for nonviolent solutions contribute to cohesive and strategic international action?
