Haverford College has been invited to send up to four students as delegates to the 14th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, on October 13-15, 2014.
Haverford College has been invited to send up to four students as delegates to the 14th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, on October 13-15, 2014. This opportunity will provide attendees the chance to network with other college students interested in world peace and mingle with world leaders and social justice luminaries from around the world.
The World Summit, held for the first time in Africa, is hosted by Nobel recipients Archbishop Desmond Tutu and F.W. de Klerk include a series of moderated discussions, ceremonies and programming sessions joined by Nobel Peace laureates, high-profile leaders and humanitarian organizations from around the world. This year, the theme is “Leading by Example,” and will focus on human rights, individual activism, and youth involvement.
With a strong focus on youth involvement, students will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Nobel Peace laureates during the scheduled programs and moderated sessions. Further, students will form a cohort and follow a programmed curriculum. The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is internationally recognized as among the most important annual events in the field of peacemaking.
The Haverford Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) is organizing the Haverford delegation. To apply for a spot on the delegation, simply answer the questions below
The application deadline is Wednesday, September 10, at 5:00 pm. Successful candidates will be eligible for travel support through the CPGC. Apply via CPGC's on-line application system. Go to our homepage and click "Apply."
Note: All applicants will need to hold passports with six months validity from the end of Fall Break. Successful applicants will need to obtain instructor permission for any classes missed as a result of their participation in the Summit.
