Visit the lobby at McGill library to see the student exhibits that have been created as a part of the Mellon Tri-College Creative Residency, "Commercial Bodies: The Market of Sports and Race."
This exhibit displays the work of students in History 251: The Measure and Mismeasure of Man that are part of a semester-long project exploring the residency’s themes: “property” and “image” at the intersection of race, sports, and commercialization. Previously the students wrote research briefs on specific historical topics and episodes from that historical intersection. These posters express in visual terms the content, findings, and arguments of their briefs. More than translations of text, their different medium presented challenges to, and an opportunity to reflect upon, conventions for written expression and analysis while also engaging questions of aesthetics and affective versus effective communication.
Presented publicly, they also invite feedback. Please feel welcome to share your thoughts and comments about specific posters and the exhibit overall.
