Trans* Terms 101: A Talk on Gender Identity with Qui Alexander
Trans* speaker and activist, Qui Alexander, will lead a thoughtful, informative, and assuredly hilarious discussion on gender identity. Come learn about trans* issues and how to make Haverford a safer place for 'Fords of all gender identities.
If any of these terms are new or confusing to you, please join us and learn more about issues relating to gender identity and gender expression! Qui will further explain these terms and the definitions that he uses for them:
Gender Identity: The internal sense of how you perceive yourself.
Gender Expression: How one presents their gender to the world. Often used in terms of masculine and feminine, but not limited to the two.
Transsexual: A term used for folks whose gender identity and sex assigned at birth does not match up. Often people alter their bodies by hormones or surgery in order to make their gender identity match. Not all folks who take hormones or have surgery identify as transsexual.
Genderqueer: Someone whose gender identity is both man and woman, neither man nor woman or something else.
