Description
Noted calligrapher Mohamed Zakariya will provide a brief introduction to the tools, techniques, and aesthetics of Arabic-script calligraphy. Participants will have an opportunity for hands-on experience forming individual and connected letters.
Zakariya, known for his designs of two “Eid Greetings” U.S. Postage stamps, holds icazets (diplomas in calligraphy) from the Research Center for Islamic History, Art, and Culture in Istanbul. His works have been shown around the world, most recently in a 2011 solo exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. The workshop will be capped at 25.
