Claudia Pederson is a finalist to be the 2013-15 Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow, Hurford Center for Arts & Humanities. She would participate in the 2013-14 Faculty Seminar, "The Anarchist Tradition, Revisited,” led by Craig Borowiak, Political Science.

Description
In her work as an art historian, Claudia Pederson focuses her research the ways in which new media arts can re-purpose communication technologies and serve as forms of non-violent activism. Her dissertation, Gaming the System, brought these interests to digital games created by contemporary artists, which she argued act as both transnational cultural critique and disruptions/mobilizations of mainstream networks of global cultural production and distribution. Pederson is currently working on a book tentatively entitled Utopias of Play. In her classes at Ithaca College and Cornell, she focuses on the relationships between art and activism as they apply to modernity and globalization.
