Description
THE DOCUMENT OF THE POEM is a reading and a forum showcasing Documentary poems written by students in the Creative Writing Poetry workshop ENGLISH 292 during spring 2013. Documentary poems are an intersection between poetry as a language of inquiry and the traditional documentary practices of film, radio, and photography. The poems explore the possibilities in which Facts intersect with the fact of the poem. Some of the student poems represent archival research, the use of language from documents (public and otherwise), interviews, and personal histories. Models of Documentary Poetry studied over the semester include work by Charles Reznikoff, Muriel Rukeyser, Ed Sanders, Susan Howe, and a number of other contemporary poets engaging facts as poetic material.
