Student Conversation on Visual Studies @ Haverford

Mark Tansey, Pleasure of the Text, 1986
Description
Across the disciplines, artists and scholars produce visual materials of all sorts, from drawings, paintings, prints, and sculpture to charts, maps, and “killer slides”; from special collections and exhibitions to photographs, films, videos, and animated gifs; from absorption spectra, microscopy images, phylogeny trees, and Feynman diagrams to blogs and social media platforms. In the contemporary academy, nearly every discipline can and does engage with visual materials.
This year, faculty from the three divisions have been meeting to discuss visual studies and what it means for Haverford. Now we’d like to hear from students. Data visualization, video production and film studies, digital humanities, etc.—how might new courses, facilities, and student initiatives support both the making and analysis of visual materials?
Students in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities are strongly encouraged to attend.
