Join Tom Pleatman, woodworker and Haverford alum, in a discussion of how he reveals the beauty in Haverford's trees through his elegant bowls and wooden vessels.
Description
While all trees share the same physical structure of bark, pith and cells that carry water and nutrients, their wood when cut can vary greatly. A sweet gum glows, a hackberry has hidden surprises and the oak's strength is evident. Tom will describe how the months-long process of drying, turning and shaping wood into finished bowls brings out the beauty in each fallen tree. Free, but reservations required.
