Description
This summer, I interned at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), a non-profit education organization dedicated to increasing science literacy through astronomy. As an intern, I was involved in a number of outreach opportunities, including helping out at the local science museum, working with a high school science program, and helping coordinate and run astronomy workshops for educators in K-12 schools. During this lunch, I will discuss my experience at the ASP, what it was like working at an education non-profit, and highlight some of the opportunities I was able to take part in. I will also discuss what it was like to be involved in science education and public outreach, and how this could be a possibility for future Haverford students. While the ASP is an astronomy education non-profit, many of the educators I worked with had backgrounds in astronomy, physics, math, natural sciences and education -- any student in those or related fields could gain a lot from an ASP internship. Lunch will be provided if you RSVP to Beth Willman (bwillman@haverford.edu).
