Dig Into the Archives Series
Description
WHEN: Friday - October 5, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Special Collections Reading Room in Magill Library
In 1914, World War I burst Haverford’s ‘bubble’. In an attempt to maintain Quaker values yet cooperate in the war effort, sports were cancelled on campus and students and faculty alike trained for three hours each work day to prepare for a national emergency. To find out how our campus participated in, protested against, or was affected by the Civil War, both World Wars, and the Vietnam War, join us for the first part of Haverford’s newest series, Dig Into the Archives. On the first Friday of each month, we invite you to explore and interact with some of the hidden treasures found in Special Collections, including photographs, manuscripts and letters spanning Haverford’s history and beyond. Haverford in Wartime will be our first of this exciting new program.
