Description
The Department of Philosophy and the Distinguished Visitors Program present a talk by David Charles, Professor of Philosophy, Oriel College, Oxford University.
David Charles is a leading figure in the study of Aristotle. He is the author of more than two dozen articles on Aristotle’s philosophy of science, metaphysics, philosophy of mind and action, and ethics. He is the editor or co-editor of 5 volumes, including Unity, Identity and Explanation (OUP, 1994), Wittgensteinian Themes: Essays in Honour of David Pears (OUP, 2002), and Definition in Greek Philosophy (OUP, 2010), and he is the author of two books, Aristotle’s Philosophy of Action (Duckworth, 1984) and Aristotle on Meaning and Essence (OUP, 2000). Professor Charles is currently working on a book on Aristotle’s ethics.
