Description
Writing at the Crossroads:
Exploring the Intersection of Spoken Word and Image
WORKSHOP WITH POET DANIEL “FRITZ” SILBER-BAKER
Multicultural Center (Stokes 106)
FRIDAY, 11/18, 5:30-7:30 pm
The second of three workshops exploring the relationship between the visual and the verbal, images and words. Attendance of previous workshop recommended but not required.
This workshop will focus on the completion of a full spoken word piece, further exploring intersections shared by photographs and written poetry; this session will also delve into more conventional elements of spoken word, helping participants hone performance technique as well as develop personal voice, both on the page and on the stage. Writing poetry inspired by photographs and taking photos inspired by writing, participants will come away from these workshops with a chapbook compiling the group’s collective work.
Daniel “Fritz” Silber-Baker has run workshops and performed across the United States, sharing the stage with Angela Davis, Dennis Kucinich, Andre Nickatina, and Immortal Technique. Currently a member of the Intangible Arts Collective, Fritz has won numerous awards for his performances, including a National Championship and “Best Poet” at the Collegiate Poetry Slam Championships (CUPSI), Grand Slam Champion of the Bowery Poetry Club, and 6th place a member of the Urbana Poetry team at the 2011 National Poetry Slam Championships.
