Description
Dr. Placas holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Rice University. She has recently defended her dissertation "An Ethnography of Indebtedness: The Emergence of Consumer Credit in Greece," a project funded by the National Science Foundation, and has been the recipient of various fellowships and awards. She has presented and published on issues related to the anthropology of money, consumerism, kinship, gender and sexuality, and Europeanization. She's currently researching two new projects, one related to privacy law and one related to animal welfare, and is working on turning her dissertation into a book.
