Will Shortz is coming to Haverford!

Description
Mr. Shortz has been the crossword puzzle editor for The New York Times since 1993 and is the only person in the world to hold a degree in Enigmatology - the study of puzzles - a curriculum he designed through Indiana University’s Individualized Major Program. After receiving a law degree from the University of Virginia, Mr. Shortz decided to skip the bar exam and pursue his life-long dream; to create puzzles! According to Will, his passion for puzzles comes from his fascination with “things that work cleverly”. In a 2006 interview with The New York Times, Mr. Shortz shared the feelings he gets from solving a puzzle; “Of the natural problems we face every day, very few have concrete solutions. But with a puzzle, you have that feeling of completion, which is very satisfying. You have not a solution but the perfect solution.”
Since his decision to pursue crosswords, Mr. Shortz has accomplished many “puzzling” feats. He is the founder of the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, the World Puzzle Championship and the league historian of the National Puzzlers’ League. Mr. Shortz has also authored and/or edited more than 100 books and owns over 20,000 puzzle books and magazines dating back to 1545. Over the years, Mr. Shortz’s “puzzling” accomplishments have earned him guest appearances on The Simpsons, Oprah, The Daily Show, and a regular segment, as the Puzzle Master, on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday since 1987. In 2006, the documentary Word Play was released, which focused on Shortz’s career and his involvement with the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. In 2005, Mr. Shortz began to publish Sudoku puzzle books which sold over 5 million copies in the first two years and expanded into a 50 book series.
