Description
Capital Futures
Spring 2011 Reading Group
Sponsored by the Hurford Humanities Center
Given the dire urgency of our current economic and ecological crises, perhaps some new insights can be gained from both classic and contemporary accounts of the nature and possible futures of capitalist society. This reading group, open to all bi-co students and faculty, proposes to study the works of Karl Marx's Capital (Volume 1), the "Capitalism and Schizophrenia" project of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, and Capitalism and Christianity, American Style, the recent visionary work of William E. Connolly, the Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. The group will determine a most-likely bi-weekly meeting schedule after this initial conversation.
Organized by Joshua Delpech-Ramey, Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy
