Keynote Speaker: Dr. Lucius Outlaw
Lucius Turner Outlaw (Jr.) is a leading scholar of African American philosophy. He was formerly the T. Wistar Brown Professor of Philosophy at Haverford and is now Professor of Philosophy and African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University. He last spoke at Haverford during the 2006 UnityFest, promoting dialogue amongst the community about the true meaning and level of multiculturalism on campus. He is strong voice for an inclusive multicultural undergraduate education and has previously taken Haverford to task for its approach to diversity. He will speak on Martin Luther King’s relevance in the “Age of Obama.”

Join us for a week dedicated to honoring Dr. King’s legacy and promoting dialogue about civil rights. This year’s theme is MLK In the Age of Obama. What is Dr. King’s relevance today? Are we truly in a post-racial society? How do issues of race, diversity, multiculturalism, and civil rights play out in our nation with our new President Obama? What about on Haverford’s campus?
