WHY (get informed!):
While the flooding in Pakistan, along with its aftermath, have not received much attention by the mainstream media, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said “it is the worst disaster I have ever seen.” An incredibly devastating natural disaster, the UN estimates that more than 20 million Pakistanis are injured or homeless. At one point a fifth of the country, a region the size of Italy, was submerged underwater. The number of individuals affected is more than the total number of people affected by the terrible 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and the 2004 Indonesian tsunami combined. More than 10 million people have been forced to drink unsafe water and are now in danger of contracting disease. More than a million homes have been destroyed. Unfortunately, many people don't even know what happened nor what is happening now. Come spend some of your Saturday evening in Founders and enjoy some music, snacks, and two short lectures by some very interesting people and do your part by donating whatever time and money you can toward the much needed relief efforts in Pakistan. :)
