Bioethicist Ruth Levy Guyer will discuss the ethics of animal research with students and faculty over a free dinner!
Bioethicist Ruth Levy Guyer will give a short talk on issues related to animal testing. This will be followed by an informal discussion. Among the questions that we will be considering are these: Is all experimentation with animals necessary and/or appropriate? How might researchers ensure that their experiments with animals are done ethically? What are valid alternatives to animal experiments? How can humans ensure that proper protections are in place when they interact with animals in the lab and elsewhere? Does our species owe anything to other species? This event is designed for those who are working with animals, those who might be in the future, those who have concerns about or interest in animal experiments, and those who simply want to learn more about an increasingly complex and topical issue.
Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to come; dinner provided.
