The Writing Life: A Faculty Book Talk

Description
The Library invites faculty, students, and members of the Tri-Co community to a series of conversations designed to highlight the work of Haverford faculty in the production of scholarly books.
The series will launch with a presentation by Dr. Ashok Gangadean, Professor of Philosophy.
In this talk, entitled "Awakening the Global Mind: Twin Books" Dr. Gangadean will discuss two books: his recently published scholarly book from SUNY Press entitled Meditations on Global First Philosophy; and his forthcoming work Awakening the Global Mind, designed for a popular audience. In each of these books, Professor Gangadean explores issues of awakening, consciousness, wisdom, and philosophy within a global context. Awakening the Global Mind involves a dilation and shift in the power of language to express and process this global wisdom. In producing his two books over decades he struggles with finding the most effective way to bring this shift in scripting to life. In a sense, the two books are 'twins' in that they both address the same content, but with different audiences in mind. In his talk, Professor Gangadean will discuss the works themselves and how producing a book for a scholarly audience differs from work aimed at a more general audience.
The series will continue with two talks in the spring semester, TBA:
Theresa Tensuan on: Breaking the Frame: Comics and the Art of Social Transformation
Susanna Wing on: Constructing Democracy in Transitioning Societies of Africa: Constitutionalism and Deliberation in Mali
