This evening will feature a reading by Julia Alvarez from her own work, and a musical performance by Professor of Music Heidi Jacob based on settings of poems by Julia Alvarez and performed by L'Ensemble. This event is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, December 1st at 7:30 pm, the Marianne Moore Fund for the Study of Poetry and the Haverford College Department of Music present an evening with Julia Alvarez, author, and music by Heidi Jacob on settings of poetry by Ms. Alvarez, in Thomas Great Hall at Bryn Mawr College. This event is free and open to the public.
Julia Alvarez is the author of books of fiction including "How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents," "In the Time of the Butterflies," and "Saving the World;" collections of poetry including "The Woman I Kept to Myself," "Homecoming: New and Selected Poems,: and "The Other Side;" the nonfiction work "Once Upon a Quinceanera: Coming of Age in the USA;" and books for children. She lives in Vermont, where she is a writer-in-residence at Middlebury Colelge. This evening will feature a reading by Ms. Alvarez from her own work and a musical performance by Haverford College Professor of Music Heidi Jacob on settings of Julia Alvarez's poems performed by musicians from the Vermont-based group "L'Ensemble" (Ida Faiella, soprano; Barry Finclair, violin; and Charles Abramovic, piano.). This event is co-presented by Bryn Mawr College and Haverford College.
