Celebration of Historical Philadelphia Meeting Records

Description
Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections recently received over 300 years of records from the oldest Quaker meeting in Philadelphia, established in 1682. Documenting such issues as anti-slavery, education for African Americans, and the establishment of codes of practice in life and business, the voluminous records of the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia have now been processed and are open to researchers.
On November 8, scholars Maurice Jackson and Emma Lapsansky-Werner will speak about the research opportunities opened up by this important acquisition. Emma Cox ’09, a former student involved in the processing of these records, and Carol and Willman Spawn, the long-time caretakers of the records before their arrival at Haverford, will also speak about their work with the records.
Reception to follow in Magill Library.
