A Participatory Reading of Aeschylus' Oresteia

Description
The Classics department is continuing the series of participatory readings that has so far included the all-day Odyssey(2006), the afternoon Symposium (2007), and the all-day Aeneid (2008), this time with an evening reading of Aeschylus' trilogy the Oresteia. This reading will take place on Thursday October 1st, 6:30-10:30 PM in the sunken lounge of the Haverford Dining Center; we have assigned the named parts, but walk-ins are welcome to join in some of the choruses.
The Oresteia includes three plays - Agamemnon, Libation Bearers, and Eumenides. The first tells the story of the murder of Agamemnon, newly returned from Troy, and of the Trojan seer Cassandra, by Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus; it also tells - through the lyrics of the chorus and the visions of Cassandra - the story of the earlier history of the house of Atreus. The second play tells of the return from exile of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra's son Orestes, of his reunion with his sister Electra, and of the vengeance he takes on Clytemnestra and Aegisthus. The third play tells of Orestes' pursuit by the avenging Furies, his flight to Athens, and the trial that takes place there, with the Furies as prosecutors, Apollo for the defense, Athena presiding, and a jury of Athenian citizens.
All are welcome; if you can't be there for the whole trilogy, please feel free to come for part. The reading ofAgamemnon should be starting at about 6:45, of Libation Bearers at about 8:00, and of Eumenides at about 9:00.
