Volleyball Ends California Swing Undefeated;
Pushes Overall Record to 8-0 with 3-1 Wins Over
George Fox & Claremont Mudd-Scripps
CLAREMONT, CA - Head coach Amy Bergin's Haverford volleyball team defeated both George Fox and Claremont Mudd-Scripps 3-1 Saturday afternoon, pushing its overall record to 8-0 on the season. Haverford bested George Fox 30-19, 30-22, 21-30, 30-24. The third-game loss was the first of the season for the Fords after having won a record 20 in a row to start the season. Haverford defeated Claremont Mudd-Scripps 30-17, 22-30, 30-28, 30-18. Haverford concluded its trip to the 2007 Pacific Coast Classic, hosted by Pomona College, with a 4-0 record.
In Haverford's match versus George Fox, sophomore outside Rebecca Salvo led the Fords with 18 kills, a .500 hitting percentage along with 12 digs and two aces. Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Salvo had 12 kills and a team-high 21 digs, while senior middle hitter K'Lynn Solt contributed ten kills and three blocks. Senior outside hitter Laura Nuyen added nine kills, while senior setter Emily Hinchcliff added 45 assists. Senior Dana Mullenhard and freshman Kelsey Cantwell also had four aces in the match.
Rachel Salvo totaled 13 kills with a .343 hitting percentage in Haverford's 3-1 win over Claremont Mudd-Scripps. Nuyen had 10 kills with a .357 hitting percentage, while Solt and Rebecca Salvo each had eight kills. Mullenhard added nine kills with a .600 hitting percentage. Hinchcliff once again dished out 45 assists and had three blocks. Cantwell and Nuyen had 14 digs each while Rebecca Salvo had a team-high 17 digs. The Fords had 17 blocks as a team against Claremont Mudd-Scripps.
The Fords capped off a west coast swing that also included wins over 17th-ranked University of Redlands and Puget Sound, who was just two positions short of reaching the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Division III preseason poll.
Haverford will continue its difficult schedule at home Wednesday evening. The Fords will take on #21 Stevens at 5:00 p.m., and will follow with a match against Elizabethtown scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
