Fords Win Both Matches in First Day of Bomber Invitational
ITHACA, NY - The Haverford College women's volleyball
team defeated Brockport, 3-2, (30-28, 30-23, 28-30, 27-30, 15-9)
and edged out the Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-1, (30-23,
31-33, 30-27, 30-15) on Friday evening in the first day of the 2006
Bomber Invitational, held at Ithaca College.
In the opening match of the tournament against Brockport,
the Fords were led by freshman middle hitter Rebecca Salvo and junior
outside hitter Laura Nuyen, who both registered a team-high 15 kills.
Junior setter Emily Hinchcliff recorded 52 assists in the closely
battled five game match for Haverford.
The second match of the evening saw Nuyen tally 13 kills, a team-high
23 digs, and two aces. Rebecca Salvo added 16 kills, 16 digs and
two blocks, while Hinchcliff registered 41 assists. K'Lynn Solt
had a team-high three aces for the Fords in the four game victory.
Haverford has won all seven matches to start the 2006
season. The 30-28 loss in game three to Brockport was the first
game the team has lost in 2006. Prior to that game, Haverford had
won 17 straight games.
The undefeated Fords will return to action Saturday
afternoon in the final day of action at the Bomber Invitational.
