Fords Take Home 2006 Invitational Crown
Salvo Sisters Named All-Tournament
HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College women's
volleyball team defeated Widener, 3-0 (30-26, 30-14, 30-16), late
Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the 2006 Haverford
College Invitational. 2006 marks the second time in the past three
seasons that Haverford has taken home the Tournament crown. For
her performance over the weekend, freshman Rebecca Salvo (La Canada,
Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart) was named the Tournament's Most
Valuable Player, while sister Rachel Salvo was named to the All-Tournament
team.
Widener stayed tough with Haverford in game one, but
a balanced attack by the Fords kept games two and three out of reach.
Rebecca Salvo registered nine kills and team-highs with 18 digs
and two service aces in the championship match, while twin sister
Rachel tallied 13 kills and 16 digs. Laura Nuyen recorded 16 kills
for the second consecutive match, while Emily Hinchcliff put together
41 assists and nine digs.
"We won every single game of each match because every single
player contributed," said the Haverford College volleyball
coaching staff. "It wasn't easy, which is why every contribution
was so valuable."
Haverford will return to action on Friday and Saturday
evenings to face some of the toughest Division III competition in
the country at the Ithaca Tournament.
