Haverford Sweeps Ursinus, 3-0, in Season Opener
HAVERFORD, PA - The Haverford College volleyball
team defeated Centennial Conference foe Ursinus, 3-0, (30-14, 30-24,
30-26) in its season opener Friday evening at Gooding Arena. Freshmen
outside hitters Rebecca Salvo and twin sister Rachel Salvo each
notched 16 and 12 kills, respectively, for the Fords.
The Fords jumped early on the Bears in game one and
never looked back. Junior setter Emily Hinchcliff recorded 25 assists
and six digs, while junior outside hitter Laura Nuyen added a team-high
seven service aces along with four kills. Rebecca Salvo had a team-high
19 digs, while Rachel Salvo tallied 12.
The win gives Haverford a 1-0 record in both regular
season and Conference play. Ursinus drops to 0-1, 0-1 on the young
season.
Haverford will return to action on Saturday
at 12:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Catholic in the first
game of the 2006 Haverford Invitational. The Fords will also take
on non-conference opponent Neumann at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
